Step 1: Fine Sanding

Each component is hand-sanded through multiple grits to create a smooth, even surface and softly eased edges, allowing the finish to absorb consistently across the wood.

Step 2: GRAIN RAISING

The surface is lightly moistened to raise the wood grain, then sanded again by hand. This step helps ensure a smooth final finish even through years of environmental changes.

Step 3: Base Stain

A penetrating clear varnish is applied and hand-rubbed into the wood to highlight the natural ray-fleck pattern of quarter-sawn oak and establish the foundation of the final tone.

Step 6: Top Coats

Multiple coats of a durable, furniture-grade finish are applied for long-term protection against daily wear, moisture, and household use, while maintaining a soft, natural luster.

Step 5: Sealer Coat

A protective sealer is applied to lock in color and stabilize the surface, followed by an ultra-fine hand sanding to level the grain and prepare for the final topcoats.

Step 4: COLOR APPLICATION

A carefully controlled wiping stain or shading layer is applied to achieve the desired color in one of our six color finishes to achieve the desired character and variation of natural hardwood. This example uses charcoal finish.

The piece is hand-rubbed and inspected by the finisher to ensure a smooth touch, even sheen, and consistent tone. Once complete, it is packaged and then signed off for delivery.

Hand-Made in America

Craftsmanship isn’t a marketing idea — it’s a lineage. Founded in 1946, we have spent generations building furniture the way earlier craftsman did: slowly, deliberately, and by hand, using solid oak and cherry hardwoods grown right here in the United States. Every piece is shaped, fitted, and finished in our Southern California workshop. Every join, every runner, every detail reflects real human care - and that's the true beauty of hand-made. The result is furniture made to live with — not just for a season, but for decades, designed to be passed to your children, and your children's children — carrying forward the same spirit of American craftsmanship that has defined Trend Manor since our beginning.
